HOW TO // 5 SIMPLE WAYS TO REFRESH YOUR LIVING ROOM

Try these 5 easy ways to refresh your living room for summer!

Summer is right around the corner and if you are anything like me then you're ready to make a few changes for the new season!  Freshening your decor doesn't need to break the bank - it could be as easy as shifting pieces to a different room.  Take a look around your house, see what spots need a little love and start making a plan!

Living Room Decor Refresh #1:
Swap out your pillows

Changing up your pillows is one of the easiest ways to really transform the look of your living room.  There are so many beautiful options out there from Etsy to Anthropologie to local design shops that you might have a hard time narrowing it down!  If you are feeling crafty, why not buy a piece of fabric or vintage textile and make your own pillow cover.  If sewing isn't your thing check out my pillow shop!  Reuse your existing inserts and don’t be afraid to test out a new pattern or color that interests you.  Not sure where to start? See my tips on mixing and matching pillows here.

Living Room Decor Refresh #2:
Upgrade your lighting

Changing your lighting doesn’t have to be an expensive ordeal and it can drastically change the vibe of your living room.  If you have been living with builder grade or blah light fixtures (I’m included here!) do yourself a favor and invest in something that makes you happy!  I still have one of those dreaded “boob” light fixtures in my hallway that makes me scowl every time I pass by.  If you are tight on space and interested in plug-in sconces, I did a major round-up here!

Living Room Decor Refresh #3:
Declutter by adding practical storage

If you are tired of scattered remotes, chapstick rolling around on the coffee table or blankets tossed on the floor, it’s time to add some practical (and pretty) storage to your living room.  Use trays to gather remotes, boxes to hide small personal items and baskets to stash extra throw pillows or blankets. Trays are a decorator’s best friend as they coral a random assortment of items and cuts down the visual clutter.

Living Room Decor Refresh #4:
Change out artwork

Much like changing out your pillows, swapping artwork can be a quick and easy way to refresh your living room.  There’s no need to plan out an entirely new gallery wall (unless you really want to) but instead choose 2-3 pieces that you wouldn’t mind covering up for the summer.  By reusing your existing frames and only purchasing prints you can put that extra cash toward sipping Mai Tais at the beach. Living Room Decor Refresh #5:
Rearrange accessories and create a new vignette

You probably already have a great stash of accessories around your house just waiting to be used in a different way.  Spend the afternoon gathering some of your decor and play around with placing them in a new room or in different groupings to come up with a fresh vignette.  You’ll be surprised at how a piece you might be bored of will shine in a new location!  If you are looking for tips on styling a console table check out this post.  I will be working on a coffee table styling series soon!
